Yullia Zasimova (1992, Ukraine) is the winner of the Second Prize of the 63rd Tenor Viñas Competition. The soprano performed Regnava nel silenzio (Lucia di Lammermoor) by Gaetano Donizetti and Je veux vivre (Roméo et Juliette) by Charles Gounod. Once the competition had ended, the team was able to speak with her to get to know her better.

— Once the competition has finished, how do you feel?

First of all, I feel very happy, tired, and really very excited.

— What motivated you to apply for the Tenor Viñas Contest?

I took part in this competition because it was my dream, and also because since 2018 I have been in an opera studio program and I tried to participate, but I had some health issues and finally did not participate — although I don’t remember exactly. Then I decided that I must take part in this competition because it’s very important for every singer; it’s a great competition and brings great opportunities for everyone.

—  What led you to the world of lyric and opera, and when did you decide to pursue it professionally?

My mom is a music teacher and I didn’t have a chance to not be a musician, but in the end it’s my life—I can’t live without music, without singing. It’s a wonderful profession and it’s a difficult profession, but also it can bring a lot of happiness.

— What would you say are your dream roles?

Lucía de Lammermoor and maybe later Traviata.

What advice would you give to future contestants?

Be brave, prepare your program properly and carefully, and sing your heart out.

— In three words, how would you define the Tenor Viñas Contest?

Music, art, happiness.
