Yesterday – Sunday, 15 March- Teatro Real of Madrid hosted the Concert of Tenor Viñas Contest, featuring the four top winners of the 63rd Tenor Viñas International Singing Contest, held last January at the Gran Teatre del Liceu. The performance is the result of the Teatro Real Extraordinary Prize, awarded to the four top winners of the Contest, and brought together once again on the same stage the young Ukrainian singers Vladyslav Buialskyi (first prize) and Yuliia Zasimova (second prize), as well as the South Korean Felix Park (fourth prize). The third prize winner, Vlad Tlushch, was also scheduled to perform in the concert but was ultimately unable to take part due to indisposition.

The artists performed accompanied by the Teatro Real Orchestra, under the guidance of maestro Julio García Vico, who once again led the orchestra after also conducting the Gran Teatre del Liceu Symphony Orchestra in the Contest Winners’ Concert held at the Liceu on 18 January. The Teatro Real welcomed a large audience, who followed the concert with enthusiasm and rewarded the singers with long ovations.

With this performance, the young artists add another significant milestone to the beginning of their careers after their appearance at the Liceu, now performing at another of Europe’s most important opera stages. The concert programme included a selection of opera arias by composers such as Mozart, Rossini, Donizetti and Verdi. The fact that three of the four singers are Ukrainian also offered the opportunity to hear music by composers of that nationality, such as Mykola Lysenko and Anatoliy Kos-Anatolsky, as well as by the Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff.
